Heart

A piece of local New York Black Walnut transforms into a cantilevered altar table by the collaborative efforts of Grow Peace Studio and jeweler, Alex Lozier. This piece is named for our desire and intention of spiritual alignment of the heart and mind. Honoring the strength of the heart chakra, it features a unique cantilever design that challenges traditional table structures with its dynamic form and balance with humble homage to George Nakashima. The piece's natural edges were originally unintended, but after noticing the sleek designated leg piece didn’t aesthetically align, the offcuts from the same tree were selected instead. This decision highlights the authenticity of wood, suggesting that even in crafted objects, nature tells its own story.

After a meticulous, lost-art wax casting process, Lozier was able to construct a silver nesting bowl that rests at the tabletop’s heart chakra. What could have been viewed as a blemish to be covered has now become an opportunity for spiritual practice. "Heart" represents more than just a piece of furniture—it is a testament to the synergy between artisanal craftsmanship and the celebration of natural forms.
