Local Timber Types

Here’s a closer look at the natural heart of our creations at Grow Peace Studio. Nestled in the lush landscape of New York's Hudson Valley, we are privileged to work with some of the finest local woods that not only highlight striking natural beauty but also allow us to resurrect them to stand the test of time.

Black Walnut: Commonly growing to over 100 feet tall at maturity, Black Walnut can be spotted along the North American East Coast. Known for its rich, dark color and fine grain, Black Walnut is a favorite for its strength and durability. It adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any piece, making it a popular choice for both functional and decorative items.

Black Cherry: Also found in the North American East, this species has the ability to reach anywhere from 50-100 feet tall. Cherished for its warm, reddish hue that deepens with age, Cherry wood is as robust as it is beautiful. It's remarkably workable and offers a smooth finish, ideal for intricate designs and detailed work.

Maple: Found in the North American Northeast Maple is able to grow up to 115 feet, and can come in a variety of patterns. With its light, creamy color and smooth grain, Maple is incredibly versatile and durable, making it perfect for high-traffic items like dining tables and cabinets. Its resilience and easy maintenance are matched only by its aesthetic versatility.

White Ash: Located along the Eastern Coast of North America and typically reaching anywhere from 65-100 feet tall is the resilient White Ash. This wood is celebrated for its light color and pronounced grain, offering excellent shock resistance which is ideal for furniture that needs to withstand the rigors of daily use. Ash is not only strong but also has elastic qualities that designers value.

Each tree species that we work with offers its own unique qualities to our creations, resonating with our commitment to bringing each piece to its own destiny. We exclusively use naturally felled timber, ensuring that our practices support local ecosystems. Join us as we continue to explore and harness the natural beauty and strength of these remarkable tree species in our artistry.
